The Witcher 3 Remastered photo mode got a new interface and many more options. You can now place other characters in the shot, pose Geralt and change his expression, change the weather and the time of day, switch to a first-person camera and save camera setups to reuse later. Here is everything the remaster adds, from the official Witcher 3 Remastered patch notes.
Photo mode characters and poses
- Choose from several characters and place them in the scene.
- Poses and facial expressions for Geralt and for the characters you place.
- Placeable props to dress the scene.
- Hide the NPCs around you to clear the frame.
Witcher 3 Remastered photo mode camera options
- Lock the camera in place.
- Save camera presets and reuse them.
- Switch to first-person mode to shoot from Geralt's point of view.
- Turn camera collisions with objects and walls on or off, to place the camera where you want.
- Camera coordinates are shown on screen, which helps when you line up the same shot twice.
- On PC, the mouse cursor shows in photo mode, and on Switch 2 the touch screen works in it.
Scene, weather and framing
- Apply environment presets to change the look of the scene.
- Change the weather and the time of day, and set how strong rain and storms are.
- Change the screenshot's aspect ratio.
- Show rule-of-thirds guides for each aspect ratio, with optional cinematic black bars.
The new lighting, shading and textures make a difference here; on PC, path tracing gives the most striking light, at a cost covered in the PC settings guide.
Fewer lost shots
Photo mode now asks you to confirm before you leave it, so a stray button press no longer throws away a setup you spent minutes on.
Tips for better Witcher 3 Remastered screenshots
- Use golden hour: set the time of day to just after sunrise or before sunset for soft, warm light.
- Turn camera collisions off for interiors, so walls do not push the camera into Geralt.
- Save a preset for a portrait angle you like, and reuse it after each gear change.
- Show off a new look from Reforge transmog with a placed character and a matching pose.
- Turn path tracing on for stills even if you play without it; frame rate matters less when the scene is frozen.
